Mid February to the End of the Month... Kind of

Last time I updated my blog, it was almost half way through February. Things are still going well, looking forward to start a multimedia piece within the next week or so. More details to come about that story soon. Tomorrow starts judging for POY in Michigan, so we shall see what happens.

Following photos are from the mayor preparing for the State of the City Address, Clio firer fighters goofing around after a drill, winners of election in Davison, American Legion meeting, and Baker College students developing a business plan for nuns and women making scrubs and hospital gowns.

Beginning of February to Now.

Now it is February and we are half way through it. Things are going well and still liking my job... well... internship. It has been great working with the people I have so far. The only drawback to my experience so far is it is very hard to get a photo story going because the paper is expecting something super unique. I think it would be nice just to do some kind of photo essay or a story just because it can be visually interesting. I am craving the photo story and some video work. Here are some photos from the beginning of February to this past Friday. I am going to try to start posting some of my work once a week. We'll see how that goes. Photos shown are from Snowpocalypse (which my boss tells me the next day I should have sent it to AP, ARG!), feature on an award winning high school television station, a sports feature on Kirk Gibson's son who plays hockey, and a 7th grade class preparing a play for Black History Month.

January at The Flint Journal

After the month of December, one crew of interns left and another came in. One of them is now my roommate. We are all getting along and I am sure that all of us interns will get pretty tight. Here are some photos from the month of January while working for The Flint Journal. Images are from the New Years baby of Genesee County, a wrestling feature, a triple overtime game, my first time lighting a gym, and clowns.

December at The Flint Journal

A few days after I graduated, I started my very first internship at The Flint Journal. It took some time getting used to the pace of the real world, but I caught on pretty quickly. Here are some photos that I like from what I shot at The Flint Journal in the month of December. Photos are from an 8k race, a portrait about a couple wanting to adopt a new born, feature on ice fishing, Christmas at the soup kitchen, feature on the Michigan Cootie Commander, and a bike giveaway at Swartz Creek.

Junior

This was my favorite story that I have done to date. The family was really great to work with and because of that, this story was a huge success.

Five years ago, Danielle and Richard Holland of Mount Pleasant gave birth to Richard “Junie” Jr. who has cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, a seizure disorder, and legally blind. “When Junie was born, we were told he was going to be a vegetable for the rest of his life,” Danielle Holland said.
