Additional Photo 1

I chose to do a portrait of Sean Proctor. For those who do not know him, he is a photographer, but more well known as the barefoot photographer.

I had trouble choosing a photo from this set. I narrowed it down to a few. Here are a few photos. Suggestions please.

All photos were shot at: ISO 200, 250, f11

Photo Illustration

JOB HUNTING. Mark Maddens, a senior at Wayne State University, is job hunting for when he graduates. Unemployment just went up again and the jobs might be scarce.

I lit Mark from his left with a reflector to his right. There was no major Photoshop, just cropping and toning. f11, ISO 200, Shutter speed 100.

Fashion Photography

I had a lot more fun with this assignment than I thought I would. I guess it was all in good company. These are two close friends of mine and they were a lot of fun to work with. The first picture is Dmytri Hryciw posing under a bridge near the Amtrak Station in Ann Arbor. F11, 1/125. ISO 200. The second scenario is Eryn Campbell and Dmytri Hryciw posing on the opposite side of the train tracks behind two storage shacks. I made this photo more about Eryn and tried to make her the focus of the photo. F 6.3, 1/125, ISO 200. The last scene is a runner up. It was one we did for fun and I liked it a lot. I almost used as one of my two proofs. F 6.3, 1/125, ISO 200.

Location Lighting Assignment

Info - f 5, 1/30th, ISO 200
Dan Diggler looking out at a pond in a park near his apartment in Kalamazoo, MI.
I put the strobe to his right and wedged the reflector to his left in the tree. I held on trying to get the picture without falling in the water.

Info - f 5, 1/30th. ISO 200
The model is Dan Diggler from Y 96.5, Kalamazoo's New Country. He has been a long time friend before he was ever on the air. One of my favorite movies, coincidentally his too, is !2 Angry Men. There is a scene in the movie where one of the characters walks to the window talking about his son and it is raining outside. The rain, the lighting, and the position of the actor gave the illusion to the viewers he was crying. I have always wanted to recreate that lighting scenario since I saw that movie. It wasn't raining, so I took a squirt bottle and sprayed the window. Put a strobe outside and someone held the gold reflector near Dan. If you look at the lighting set up photo, you can see the strobe through the window.

Both images were lit from the left hand side and a little bit in front of the object. Did not use any flashes. I used a lamp.

Assignment 2 - Painting With Light

This is Patrick Glasson. My camera set up for this picture is f-stop 11, 15 second shutter speed, ISO 200. What I was going for in this picture was someone who looks into the mirror and sees them true selves. In this case, the person's true self needs help. The person in the mirror is communicating to himself by spelling help. The yellow lighting represents the caution he is in. I had Patrick write help into the mirror and then pose. Right when he posed i popped the flash with a yellow gel.

The camera set up for this picture is f-stop 11, shutter speed 25. and ISO 200. In this picture I tried to go for someone who is confused and bombarded. He is in a situation where he doesn't know what to do. How we did this is I had Patrick hold a flash light and just wave it all around his head. As soon as it was around 20 seconds he stopped and posed. Immediately I popped the flash.

There is a First Time for Everything

These are the pictures I ended up choosing from the in class photo shoot I did. It was my first time with someone modeling in a studio for me. Some of the things I learned from this is that if your subject is trying to give you a good picture, you have to try to think one step ahead. With that in mind, you also have to be aware of the lights in the studio so you do not accidently capture them in the frames.
